Edward Hald studied at the Handelshochschule Leipzig and also devoted himself to architectural studies. He received his artistic training from Henri Matisse in Paris. First, Hald worked at the manufactory Rörstrand, where he designed dishes and crucially involved in the success of the company at the home exhibition 1917 in Stockholm.

In 1917 he came to the glassworks Orrefors, where he designed both art glas and utility glass.
